Google’s Gemini is coming to your car and Wear OS smartwatch
Google CEO Sundar Pichai has announced that the company is working on bringing Gemini to your car and smartwatch. It will reach the former through Android Auto and the latter on Wear OS. Pichai also mentioned tablets and headphones getting an upgrade from Google Assistant to Gemini “later this year”.
Here’s his full quote from Google parent company Alphabet’s Q1 earnings call:
We’re upgrading Google Assistant on mobile devices to Gemini, and later this year we’ll upgrade tablets, cars and devices that connect to your phone, such as headphones and watches.
No other details have been provided, but of course this isn’t surprising at all. Google has invested a lot of time and money into Gemini and so it was always just a matter of time until it reached every device and platform where Google is in charge of the software, and that’s exactly what’s going to happen.
Unfortunately, in true Google fashion, there’s no actual timeline to speak of here – “later this year” definitely has to be the company’s favorite phrase. We’ll let you know when more information becomes available.
